Social and Environment
All the houses at Casas Tropicalia have been built or restored using the best available sustainable materials and all waste is treated in the most environmentally friendly way possible.
The houses in Morere were built using registered sustainable hard wood and recycled boat wood.
The houses in Capao are built from local hand made
adobe bricks and terracotta tiles.
All houses have solar hot water systems.
Sewage is treated by biodigestor or banana septic tank. Grey water is recycled for use in the garden.
Gardens are run on agroforestry principles to grow native trees, produce food and improve the soil.

Rubbish is separated into compost, recyclables,
paper and waste.

The people who work at Casas Tropicalia are hugely important to us. All are paid more than the minimum wage and we expect guests to treat them with the utmost respect.
In 2021 we launched the social project Viva Morere with funds we raised. It is now also receiving support from the Irish Embassy in Brazil. the project offers free courses and training to over 100 young people in the community of Morere, and hopefully soon, the island of Boipeba. If you would like to know more or support Viva visit our website www.vivaboipeba.org or on instagram #projeto.vivamorere
